KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces detained a Taliban leader in the Tarin Koṯ district of Uruzgan province, Nov. 24.

The leader was known to have planned, coordinated and executed indirect fire and improvised explosive device attacks against ANSF and ISAF. He is also a key suicide bomber facilitator. He has been directly involved with senior Taliban leaders hiding in Pakistan in the requesting and moving of suicide bombers into Afghanistan.

Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led the combined security force to the Taliban facilitator’s location. The security force entered the residence peacefully and questioned the occupants.

After searching the residence, a total of two men, four women and nine children were found and protected.

The force also discovered numerous automatic weapons and IED components.

After initial questioning at the scene the security forces detained the two men, and after further questioning, the Taliban leader identified himself to Afghan authorities.

The security force safely destroyed all the weapons and IED components prior to departing the scene.
