KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army and International Security Assistance Forces detained several suspected insurgents and discovered weapons and large drug caches in southern and eastern Afghanistan in separate combined patrols Nov. 21.
During a combined dismounted patrol in Kandahar province, forces found a weapons cache in Zharay District which consisted of two rocket-propelled grenades and 30 pounds of high explosive.
In Khost province, Afghan army and coalition forces detained several suspected insurgents related to a weapons cache found in Sabari District consisting of one rifle, one AK-47, 600 7.62 mm rounds, two chest racks and two bayonets.
An Afghan and ISAF dismounted patrol found a weapons and drug cache in Marjeh District, Helmand province. The cache consisted of three AK-47 magazines, one set of brass knuckles, one load bearing vest, several improvised explosive device components, two radios and 11 pounds of opium.
An Afghan civilian tip led a separate Afghan and ISAF dismounted patrol, in the same area, to a weapons cache consisting of an emplaced IED, one 82 mm mortar and 75 7.62 mm rounds.
In Ghazni province, an ISAF patrol found a large drug cache in Deh Yak District consisting of 100 pounds of hashish, 500 pounds of seeds, several documents and three camouflaged uniforms.
All caches were taken into possession and will be destroyed.
