KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces conducted a vehicle interdiction operation and seized more than 2,200 pounds (1,000 kilograms) of opium in Garm Ser District, Helmand province, Saturday.
Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led the combined security force to a series of narcotics infiltration routes in southern Helmand province. During the operation, a vehicle was seen travelling at high speed on a known infiltration route.
The joint force stopped the vehicle and found the opium and several automatic weapons. The two men operating the vehicle were detained by Afghan authorities.
The opium and weapons were safely destroyed on site.
