KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained numerous suspected insurgents during four operations aimed at capturing insurgent leadership throughout Afghanistan Nov. 13.

An Afghan and coalition security force continued focusing on the attack networks operating inside Afghanistan’s capital city, detaining one suspected insurgent during an overnight operation in the province.

Intelligence reports led the security force to a compound south of Kabul City in Musahi district to search for an attack facilitator, who was reportedly participating in planning for upcoming attacks in Kabul. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully before the joint security force cleared and secured the buildings. Initial questioning at the scene led the security force to detain the suspected insurgent.

A local Afghan National Police force took control of the area before the security force departed.

A separate joint security force detained several suspected insurgents while targeting a Haqqani Network improvised explosive device expert and facilitator in Paktika province. Local Haqqani Network senior leaders rely on the facilitator’s expertise and guidance in conducting their IED attacks.

Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a remote compound southwest of Talabkhel to search for the facilitator. After an Afghan-led call-out, the joint security force cleared and secured the area. The security force detained the suspected insurgents after initial questioning at the scene.

Several suspected insurgents were detained during a search for a high-ranking Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan senior leader in Kunduz province. The targeted individual facilitates suicide bombers from Pakistan for attacks in the province and acts as a liaison for Taliban in the area.

In southern Afghanistan, security forces detained two individuals suspected of being associated with the current Taliban deputy shadow governor of Bakwah District in Farah province. He is responsible for directing attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, and executing strategic guidance from Farah senior terrorist leaders as well as leadership in Pakistan.

Security forces tracked the suspected insurgents to a remote location in Bakwah District to ensure the safety of local residents. As the security force secured the area, the suspected insurgents attempted to flee, but were detained peacefully.

The assault forces conducted the operations without firing their weapons and they ensured the safety of the women and children throughout the searches.
