KABUL, Afghanistan – The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Haqqani Network senior leader closely tied to the Sabari-based Haqqani Network leadership, during a clearing operation in Khost province Nov. 12.
The joint security force operation was part of a continued effort to disrupt enemy safe havens in Khost province, where Haqqani leaders establish safe havens to conduct operational planning and prepare for attacks ranging from suicide bombings to mortar attacks on local military bases.
The operation focused on the Sabari-based Haqqani facilitation and attack networks known for coordinating and conducting improvised explosive device, small-scale and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
Afghan and coalition forces targeted several compounds in Sabari district to search for known Haqqani senior leaders and facilitators. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before the combined force cleared and secured the compounds. The security force detained the senior leader along with numerous associates without shots fired.
The women and children remained protected and unharmed throughout the operation.
