FARAH, Afghanistan – U.S. Army and Navy medical personnel from the Farah Forward Surgical Team and Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team cared for a local Afghan citizen who was severely burned during a gas station explosion in Farah City Nov. 12.

“The doctors at Farah City Hospital made a determination that the patient’s burns were too severe to be cared for there, so they referred him to us to see if there was anything we could do,” said Army Lt. Col. Shaun Price, the attending

FST surgeon at Forward Operating Base Farah. “Unfortunately, after assessing the patient’s third-degree burns over 80 percent of the body we determined the only thing that could be done was to make the patient more comfortable.”

After being stabilized and receiving pain medications, the patient was transferred to Farah City Hospital in order to receive further comfort measures.
