KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces completed a deliberate clearing operation aimed at disrupting the Haqqani Network’s freedom of movement along the Pakistan border in Khost province Friday.

The joint security force is continuing their efforts to disrupt enemy safe havens in Khost province, where Haqqani leaders establish safe havens to conduct operational planning and prepare for attacks ranging from suicide bombings to mortar attacks on local military bases.

The operation focused on the Sabari-based Haqqani facilitation and attack networks known for coordinating and conducting improvised explosive device, small-scale and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

Afghan and coalition forces targeted several compounds in Sabari district to search for known Haqqani senior leaders and facilitators. Afghan forces using a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before the combined force cleared and secured the compounds. The security force detained numerous suspected insurgents for further questioning without shots fired.
