    JUNEAU, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew deployed in Cold Bay diverted from a training flight near Dutch Harbor to medevac a 26-year-old male who reportedly suffered head injuries aboard the 58-foot fishing vessel Cape Reliant 55 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor at 4:20 p.m., Nov. 9.

    Tom Webster was medevaced after the 17th Coast Guard District command center in Juneau received notification from the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley who relayed a request for a medevac by VHF radio from a crewmember aboard the Cape Reliant at 1:45 p.m.

    The Alex Haley, which was 10 miles southeast from the Cape Reliant, immediately launched a rescue crew with a medical corpsman and an EMT.

    Webster received medical treatment from the crew of the Alex Haley until he was medevaced by the helicopter crew at 4:25 p.m.

    Webster was transferred to Dutch Harbor at 5:05 p.m. where he was then transferred to Guardian flight service and flown to Anchorage for further medical care.

    The homeport for the Cape Reliant is Petersburg.

    The homeport for the Alex Haley is Kodiak.
