CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq— Soldiers with the 2101st Transportation Company, 394th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), recently assisted the 3rd Infantry Division out of Fort Stewart, Ga., with their redeployment efforts.
With the 3rd ID redeploying and the 4th ID out of Fort Carson, Colo., arriving as their replacement, the 3rd ID required transportation assets. The 2101st Trans. Company quickly stepped up to the plate and selected four soldiers for the task.
Sgt. Ruland Hall, a Red Level, Ala., native; Sgt. James Thomas, a Fort Deposit, Ala., native; Spc. Burl Shamburger, a Birmingham, Ala., native; and Spc. John Rodgers, a Lisman, Ala., native, all heavy wheeled vehicle operators with the 2101st Trans. Company, were selected.
Their mission is an ongoing one that began earlier this month and will last until completion. They drive two of the company’s Palletized Load Systems hauling containers with equipment from the Contingency Operating Base Speicher airfield to the Arrival Departure Airfield Control Group, and other locations throughout COB Speicher.
Lt. Col. Nora Marcos, commander of the 3rd ID Special Troops Battalion, requested the soldiers’ presence at one of her battalion staff meetings to thank them for their continuing assistance, and presented each one of them with a certificate of appreciation and a 3rd ID coin.
