KABUL, Afghanistan - An International Security Assistance Force air strike killed numerous insurgents during an operation in the Now Zad District of Helmand province, Nov. 6.

The air strike targeted a senior Taliban leader in Now Zad who plans and coordinates attacks against Afghan national security forces and ISAF. He also facilitates the distribution of improvised explosive device components and distributes money to Taliban fighters. He is also a member of the Now Zad area shadow governance, including oversight of Taliban judicial proceedings.

Multiple intelligence sources led to the location of the Taliban leader. After watching him for several days, ISAF conducted an air strike when the leader was in an open area with two other insurgents.

ISAF is awaiting confirmation of the Taliban leader's death.

Initial reports indicate no civilians were harmed during the operation.
