KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghanistan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol killed a district-level Taliban leader and another insurgent during an operation in Shahid-e Ḩasas District, Uruzgan province, Saturday.

The Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammadullah, was a district-level leader and shadow district chief of Deh Rawud District in Uruzgan province. Mohammadullah planned, coordinated, and resourced all district-level military operations against ANSF and ISAF.

He directed numerous Taliban cell-leaders and was the link between senior-level Taliban leaders in Pakistan and local Taliban insurgents in Deh Rāwud province. He also facilitated and directed the distribution of weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and money in Deh Rawud province.

Multiple intelligence sources led the security force to an insurgent meeting site. As the security force arrived, Mohammadullah and one associate attempted to flee from the security force on a motorcycle. As they attempted to flee, the armed insurgents ran into another element of the security force.

The armed insurgents attempted to engage the security force and were killed.

During a search of the area, the patrol found two automatic weapons and associated ammunition.

After initial questioning by ANSF, numerous men were detained following the engagement and were taken by Afghan forces for further questioning.
