KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force targeting a Taliban senior leader, who commands approximately 20 fighters in Andar and Ghazni Districts, detained two suspected insurgents during an overnight operation in Ghazni province.

The targeted individual regularly fills in for the Taliban district leader for Ghazni when the latter hides in Pakistan.

Based on intelligence tips, the security force targeted a compound northeast of Akhund Khel in Andar District to search for the senior leader. As the security force approached the compound, the security force killed a man after he charged at the security force.

When the area was secure, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully, and then cleared the buildings.

During questioning at the scene, the residents were unable to identify the deceased individual. The security force detained two suspected insurgents during the operation.

The assault force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
