KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained numerous suspected insurgents during four operations aimed at capturing Taliban and Haqqani leadership in southern and eastern Afghanistan last night.

An Afghan and coalition security force targeting the Taliban district leader for Chak-e Wardak, detained one suspected insurgent during an overnight operation in Wardak province.

Intelligence tips led the security force to a compound in Zar Bagh in Chak-e Wardak District to search for the targeted individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully, and then the joint security force cleared and secured the compound.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgent. The assault force also discovered and destroyed 15 gallons of nitric acid along with multiple weapons at the scene.

In Logar province, a separate security force targeted a Taliban senior leader who commands at least 20 fighters in Baraki Barak and Charkh Districts, detaining two suspected insurgents during an overnight operation.

Intelligence reports led the security force to a compound in Charkh district to search for the targeted individual. After an Afghan-led call out, the security force conducted initial questioning at the scene before detaining the suspected insurgents.

Another security force targeting a Haqqani Network facilitator who plans and executes multiple indirect fire and improvised explosive device attacks within Sabari and Musa Khel Districts, detained several suspected insurgents in Khost province.

The targeted individual is also involved in trafficking weapons and ammunition used against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also discovered multiple automatic weapons at the scene.

In southern Afghanistan, a joint security force targeting a Taliban senior leader who coordinates and conducts attacks in Dand and Panjwa’i Districts, detained several suspected insurgents during an overnight operation in Kandahar province. The senior leader is also responsible for distributing materials to his subordinates in the area.

Intelligence tips led the security force to a compound southeast of Srazi in Kandahar District where they peacefully detained the suspected insurgents.

The assault force did not fire their weapons during any of these operations and they protected the women and children for the duration of the searches.
