CAMP TAJI, Iraq - Multi-National Division - Baghdad partnered together with Iraqi army to make Iraq a better place to live.

Iraqi soldiers, along with their U.S. counterparts, unveiled the second brand-new medical clinic for the Iraqi soldiers of Camp Taji at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the combined camp north of Baghdad March 25.

The $2.25 million clinic opened its double-doors, marking the beginning of a force healthy enough to win the fight against terrorism.

"The facilities" progress was very good, and the development has changed for the better," said Iraqi army Maj. Adnan, the clinic director. "This clinic is so important to the Iraqi army because there weren't many medical clinics before. Now this clinic, along with the other new one, will serve all the Iraqi units on Camp Taji. It is much better than before."

The clinic, yellow in color and nestled on the Iraqi army side of Camp Taji, has five exam rooms, three emergency bays, a laboratory, a state-of-the-art x-ray machine, a sterilization room and a three-chair dental clinic.

Much like its counterpart clinic on Camp Taji, this clinic is capable of providing level-two care, which means medical personnel can stabilize a patient until the soldier can be evacuated to Baghdad for surgery if needed.

In addition, the clinic will be the test bed for keeping medical records on Iraqi patients who visit the clinic, and it has an area for a medical library which is already filling up with books.

"This is a very important day for the Iraqi army," said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Antonio Bondoc, senior medical advisor for the Taji Medical Clinic. "This clinic is being handed over to the Iraqis so they can be set-up for success. They (Iraqi medical personnel) are very competent and motivated."

"They have a great sense of pride now that they are working in this clinic," he added. "With the addition of this new clinic, there is going to be a great improvement in terms of medical service that the Iraqi staff will be able to provide to members of this base."

With the addition of the second medical clinic, Iraqi medical personnel can now handle the medical needs of the more than 12,000 Iraqi soldiers who are assigned to Camp Taji.

The camp is home to the 9th Iraqi Army Division, with its three brigades, a basic training school for new recruits and an engineering school.

"There is no comparison to how it was before," Maj. Adnan added. "This is something that will really help the Iraqi army."

As the Iraqi army continues to work side-by-side with their American counterparts to build a force capable of defending their own country and defeating terrorism, the Iraqi force will now have the means to stay healthy and continue the fight.
