KABUL, Afghanistan – Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces to the location of a Taliban leader located in an insurgent safe house in Maidan Shahr District, Wardak province, Friday.

The targeted compound is known to be associated with a Taliban leader and facilitator who directs the planning and execution of improvised explosive devices and direct attacks against ANSF and ISAF in and around Nerkh District.

Upon surrounding the targeted compound, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call-out all occupants to allow them to exit peacefully. The joint security forces then secured and searched the premises. A total of 15 women and six men were protected throughout the operation.

After initial questioning by Afghan forces, the joint security force detained the Taliban leader and one associate.
