    Coalition force defeats attack on outpost in Paktika

    KABUL, Afghanistan - Coalition forces repelled an insurgent attack on a combat outpost in the Bermal district of Paktika province Saturday, killing more than 30 insurgents.

    Insurgents attacked from all directions with rocket-propelled grenades, small arms and mortar fire at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

    The coalition forces called for air weapons team and close-air support during the engagement.
    A coalition aircraft engaged an insurgent firing position with three precision-guided munitions. The air weapons team also engaged a large number of insurgents near the outpost.

    Initial operational reporting indicates more than 30 insurgents were killed in the failed attack on the outpost.

    Five coalition service members were wounded during the fire-fight, however all continued fighting and no coalition service members were killed.
