A bazaar, known as an insurgent safe-haven and staging ground for attacks against Coalition forces, was disrupted, Oct. 25 to 26, during a clearing operation in Panjwa’i District, Kandahar province.
Afghan commandos from 3rd Commando Kandak, along with soldiers from Special Operations Task Force–South, found nine improvised explosive devices during the operation and were involved in two separate firefights with insurgent elements.
“The amount of IEDs found and detonated was a direct reflection of the veracity with which the Taliban will fight in order to keep their safe haven,” said the U.S. Special Forces team leader in charge of the operation. “The operation led to the insurgency being disrupted and denied them freedom of movement and safe haven.”
Three men with ties to the insurgency surrendered to Coalition forces during the operation whereupon they were immediately detained.
No civilians were injured or property damage occurred during the operation.
