KANDAHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan β€” Policemen with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Afghan National Civil Order Police Brigade, found an explosives cache in an abandoned compound while on patrol in Zhari District, Oct. 26, 2010.

During a morning security patrol of the area, ANCOP discovered multiple rocket- propelled-grenade casings outside the compound.

On further investigation, they discovered a cache of improvised explosive device materials including: one anti-personnel mine, one block of TNT explosive, one pressure plate IED, a metal chest rigged to detonate and two jugs of homemade explosives.

The ANCOP, partnered with U.S. Special Forces from Special Operations Task Force – South, secured the area and destroyed the explosives.

"Our partnership with Special Forces is something we are proud of," said Lt. Col. Muhammad Agha, commander, 2nd Bn., 3rd ANCOP Bde. "Because we found these explosives and no one got hurt shows the Special Forces training is working, and that ANCOP is a worthy partner in Zhari."

β€œThe ANCOP noticed the RPG casings while moving into their security positions around the abandoned compound,” said the Special Forces commander on scene. "We alerted our engineer, and we neutralized the threat for any residents who might have walked into the compound unaware of the bombs."
