    218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade

    MARION, S.C. – Members of the 1st Battalion, 263rd Armor Regiment will honor two of their own during a “Fallen Soldier Memorial March” Oct. 29 at 8 a.m. in Marion, S.C.

    Sgt. Edward O. Philpot and Staff Sgt. James D. Bullard both died while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan in October 2007. The march honors their memory and sacrifice. It will involve over 100 soldiers, including Maj. Gen. Bob Livingston, the former 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade commander, and Col. Waymon B. Storey, commander, 218th MEB. The soldiers will be joined by nearly 30 members of the Patriot Guard Riders on motorcycles.

    The march will begin at the Marion Army National Guard Armory and move approximately one and half mile to the Marion Baptist Church. Once at the church, a brief memorial ceremony will take place before participates return to the Marion Armory. At the armory a marker will be unveiled under a magnolia tree that was planted last year in the soldiers’ honor.

    After the event, a breakfast of: grits, eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns and beverages will be offered for $6. All proceeds will be used to help fund a permanent fallen soldier monument in Marion. After breakfast a graveside service will take place for those that wish to attend.

    All participates are asked to arrive no later than 7:50 a.m. Uniform for all army personnel will be duty uniform with soft cap (hydration system is optional).

    The Marion National Guard Armory is located at; 800 Green St., Marion, S.C. 29571.

    All civilians and members of the media are strongly encouraged to attend.
