SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- In a message on his commander's blog, Sept. 28, Gen. Raymond E. Johns Jr., Air Mobility Command commander, highlighted the contribution of mobility Airmen to the Pakistan flood relief efforts.
Following is an excerpt from his blog post:
"On Sept. 24, the State Department announced that U.S. military aircraft supporting Pakistan’s flood relief efforts achieved a significant and meaningful achievement.
"Since relief operations in Pakistan began in August, our Mobility Air Forces — along with our Army and Navy partners and with tremendous support from the Pakistan military — have delivered more than 10 million pounds of relief supplies to flood victims in that country.
"We have four to six MAF aircraft delivering aid daily to various distribution points in Pakistan. We’re doing this while simultaneously supporting operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world. It’s a huge effort, but it’s a part of our job that is particularly special because it’s easy to see the results of our efforts; we are saving lives and improving the quality of life for thousands of people in Pakistan. It’s also another superb example of the compassion America has for the citizens of other nations.
"Every Mobility Airmen should be proud of this accomplishment. From our aircrews and maintainers, to the mission planners and support personnel, all Mobility Airmen share this success.
"Just because you don’t wear a flight suit to work, don’t “turn a wrench” on the flightline, or don’t schedule a sortie, doesn’t mean what you do is any less important. Every Airman is integral to the success of our mission.
"What you do each day makes a huge difference in America and around the world, and I am proud of each and every one of you."
