PHILIPPINES - “It is the driving force behind our operation here and my life as a whole,” said Cpl. Chadrick Green, an electrician with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade about working on an engineering civil action project here, Oct. 14.

    “Successful teamwork.”

For Green the underlining factor behind his advancement as an athlete, student, leader and most importantly Marine has been the sense of accomplishment that comes with successful teamwork.

For the second time in his life Green, 20, is working as a team member with Filipino Seabees and Marines while constructing the new school building.

“It feels good to be back helping people,” said the Snowhill, Md. native. “I left with a lot of life lessons last time I was here.”

Phiblex ‘11 is vital to maintaining the readiness and interoperability between the U.S. and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and its military forces. Both countries have shared a long standing relationship of working together for more than 58 years.

Green said that an awesome feeling of accomplishment comes from being in the U.S Marine Corps, especially while working as a team with his Filipino counterparts, a feeling that he first felt as a child.

“It feels great because I know I’m creating a lasting impression on these people.”

“I look back at my childhood and feel becoming a Marine was chosen for me by fate or a higher power,” said Green, crediting his performance on this project to the things he learned during his upbringing.

“Green is not only an important part of this project because he will personally ensure the new school has proper electricity, but because he inspires the Marines to do the job correctly, on-time and then take it a step further,” said Staff Sgt. Aron Szekely, the engineer chief with the engineer civil affairs project.

“It’s all about the kids, but it still feels good being a direct contributor to these children's education,” said Green. “It’s good to know that while working alongside these Filipino Marines we are also creating a positive environment for these children.”

Green is looking forward to finishing the new school building, but for other reasons dreads having to leave the elementary school.

“It’s important to remember that about the same time that when we finish construction, we will leave these children ... so there is a sour and sweet aspect to finishing,” said
Green. “On the good side, the children will receive a new school building; on the down side I’m sure going to miss these kids.”
