Visitors from all over the world came to the flight line here to watch spectacular flying feats from skilled military and civilian pilots at the 2010 Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show Oct. 1 through 3.

This year’s air show, themed “Marines: A Tradition of Uncommon Valor,” was a tribute to the 65th anniversary of Iwo Jima.

The United States Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, or “Blue Angels,” and the Canadian Forces “Snowbirds” were the highlight of this year’s air show, each giving standout performances. Both demonstration teams performed precision flying formations in shows set to modern music.

Among other performers were the U.S. Army “Golden Knights” parachute team, Les Shockley’s “Shockwave” jet truck, Sean Tucker’s “Oracle Challenger" and many more military and civilian aircraft.

“I loved it. I liked the variety of the aircraft you have here,” said Mark Niese, a Costa Mesa native. “The Marines did a good job putting this together.”

As well as aircraft in the sky, visitors attending the Air Show were able to view more than a dozen static aircraft displays set up over the flight line.

“It was great, I really liked being able to look at the aircraft,” said Sandy Winton, a San Diego native. “I think it’s really important for everyone to see the professionalism of the military. It helps them realize they’re well trained, and they put their lives on the line.”

“It instills a sense of patriotism, and appreciation of the military,” said Niese. “The Air Show gives a human face to the Marine mission.”

Visitors attending the Air Show Saturday night witnessed a spectacular performance known as the “Twilight Show”. Among the twilight performers were Robosaurus the car-crushing robot, Dan Buchanan’s special effects power glider and many more. The night ended with a fireworks display and explosive ordnance disposal’s demonstration the “Great Wall of Fire.”

“The Air Show is amazing and the twilight show is so good, I wish it was Friday and Sunday as well,” said Adam Greenbors, a Los Angeles Police Department command pilot. “[The Air Show] is great for recruiting and it’s always nice to be here with our military brothers.”

“The Air Show went great, thank you to the Marine Corps for having us, thanks to the fans for supporting us. It looks like we got a great turn out this year,” said Air Force Tech. Sgt. Gabe Sistrunk, F/A-22 Raptor demonstration team chief.

With the visitors all gone home and the flight line restored to its working condition, the only thing left is to wait for next year’s Air Show and its spectacular flying feats.
