BAGHDAD - Eighteen students from various Iraqi government ministries and the Kurdish Regional Government graduated with master’s degrees in National Security Studies at the Iraqi National Defense College Sept. 29.
This one-year course covers a wide variety of strategic issues, provides flag-level military officers and civilian strategic decision makers with a higher-level education in the field of leadership.
The NATO Defense College brought a specialist team to Baghdad for a crisis management exercise focused on inter-governmental crisis management response planning as part of the curriculum.
“This is the first such exercise has ever been conducted in Iraq, and is a great achievement on the part of the NDC students and their staff,” said Lt. Gen. Babakir Zebari, chief of Iraqi Joint Forces.
Students in this class toured the NATO Defense College in Rome, the NATO Joint Force Headquarters in Naples, and attended the series of ambassadorial and NATO lectures here, in which speakers from the diplomatic corps gave their perspectives on Iraqi issues.
This was the fourth graduation since the college opened its doors four years ago, bringing the total number off NDC graduates to 76. The selection process for the fifth course is currently under way.
