KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained one suspected insurgent in Faryab province yesterday while in pursuit of a senior Taliban leader operating in Ghormach district.

The leader commands a larger number of fighters, who he sometimes provides to other Taliban leaders to help carry out their attacks.

The security force tracked a suspected insurgent to a remote area in Ghormach district. Afghan and coalition forces secured the area, and then after initial questioning on the scene, the security force detained him.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
