KABUL, Afghanistan - During a vehicle checkpoint operation in Helmand province, a combined Afghan National Security and coalition force discovered an anti-aircraft heavy machine gun and detained several men connected with its discovery Thursday.

Upon stopping two vehicles, the force discovered a ZPU1 14.5 MM anti-aircraft fun complete with tripod, sights and 100 armor-piercing rounds.

Several men were detained as a result of the discovery.

The force was conducting random vehicle checkpoints in order to intercept insurgents, weapons and narcotics traffickers in the Helmand area.
