SOUTHWEST ASIA — Coalition airpower integrated with Operation New Dawn partners in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations, Sept.17, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Mazar, Regional Command-North
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force which ground controllers called successful.
Asmar, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces, conducted a show of force, and released multiple precision-guided munitions against enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagements successful.
Konduz, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews, U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots, and a U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. F-15E aircrews performed strafing runs and conducted shows of force with flares against enemy targets.
The B-1B aircrew released precision-guided munitions against an enemy target to deter enemy activity. F-16C pilots conducted a show of force against an enemy position. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagements successful.
Ghazni, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew and U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagements successful.
Farah, RC-W
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force over an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers called the engagement successful.
Tirgari, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity, Joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagement successful.
Jalalabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force which ground controllers deemed successful.
Abchakan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted multiple shows of force over multiple enemy positions to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers called the engagement successful.
Lashkar Gah, RC-SW
U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released precision-guided munitions against an enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful.
Airlift Action
Helmand province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Zabul province, RC-S
U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III and U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Zabul province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 143,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
