UPDATE Capture of Taliban facilitator in Kandahar confirmed

KABUL – The International Security Assistance Force confirmed one of the several insurgents detained during an Afghan and coalition force operation Saturday was a Taliban facilitator for Arghandab district.

The facilitator coordinated the movement of weapons and supplies for Taliban commanders operating in the province.

Acting on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a campsite southwest of the village of Shaturi in Arghandab district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the campsite peacefully and then secured the area.

After initial questioning of the residents on scene, the security force detained the facilitator and three of his associates.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
