    Story by Capt. Yumi Couper

MAZAR-e-SHARIF, Afghanistan -- The commander of the 303rd Afghan National Police, Maj. Gen. Mujtaba Patang, met with members of the Logistics Mobile Training Team from the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team and Lt. Col. James Phillips III of the 10th Brigade Support Battalion for an operational brief July 24.

“Maj. Gen. Patang’s Region Logistics Center will be the first to be operational across all of Afghanistan,” said Senior Master Sgt. Marlon Carcamo of the Logistics Mobile Training Team.

As the commander of 303rd ANP, Patang has great logistical influence over all ANP, and Afghanistan Border Patrol throughout Regional Command – North. This makes his RLC the logistical hub for all Afghan law enforcement agencies.

During the meeting, Patang and ANP Maj. Khinjani-Gulam abdullah showed great pride and excitement over the announcement of the RLC. Khinjani is in charge of building the RLC’s logistical capability of the nine RC-N Provincial Headquarters.

This significant step for the ANP and Ministry of Interior shows that Afghan logistics has continue to improve with the current effort to employ an ISAF based logistics system. However, it has been slow to fully implement the Regional Logistics Center’s capabilities, along with the Provincial Supply Points until now.

With the guidance of the Logistics Mobile Training Team, the RLC’s upcoming operational capability marks an important step towards establishing an effective logistical system for RC-N.

Operations at the logistic center will start with the warehouse section, which is expected to begin supporting clothing requestions within the 30-60 days for all RC-N provinces. All other sections of the center such as vehicle, fuel operations and weapons storage and distribution will follow.

The successful implementation and operational capabilites of the RC-N Regional Logistics Center reflects that ISAF’s partnering and mentorship mission with the ANP is steadily helping them fine-tune their logistics system.
