FORT A.P. HILL, Va. - The good news for the thousands of Scouts, from around the nation and 28 other countries who quickly monopolized Fort A. P. Hill July 26 to participate in the National Scout Jamboree, is that they are everywhere. “They,” are military medics.
“It’s more exciting than I thought it was going to be” said Staff Sgt. Latasha Kinnes, in the 690th medical company, with 14th Combat Support Hospital, 44th Medical Combat Brigade.
Kinnes works within the nine-nine-seven emergency ambulance and is on alert and ready for anything that may require her medical attention. But as she sits off to the sideline in an ambulance with its engine dormant staying away from the busy path, she is not alone in the Northeast section. Passing nearby is a flowing river of Boy Scouts on their way to their next activity.
For the large population of Scouts roaming the area, medical care is easily accessible to the Scouts. With bikers and walkers on patrol and at least 21 medical centers in every sub camp, Scouts can use the AT&T Kiosha to call home and assure their parents that they are in good care.
So for the vast amounts of Scouts, military medic are working with EMS volunteers and the base fire department to make it a joint task operation.
