FARGO, N.D. — One last charter flight came back to North Dakota tonight, bringing North Dakota National Guard soldiers to Fargo and Bismarck after they served on a yearlong mission to Kosovo. Forty-three soldiers deplaned in Fargo at 8:45 p.m. before the flight continued to Bismarck, where it landed at 10 p.m. with about 70 more.
About 40 soldiers remain in Kosovo, where they took part in a Transfer of Authority ceremony today during which the Puerto Rico Army National Guard assumed command of the KFOR mission. Those Soldiers are expected home before the end of the month.
North Dakota led the KFOR (Kosovo Force) 12 mission, with Brig. Gen. Al Dorhmann, of Bismarck, N.D., commanding Multi-National Battle Group East. It was the largest single deployment from the North Dakota National Guard since the Korean War.
