PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana National Guard was honored by Special Olympics Louisiana with the Above and Beyond award, July 10, in Shreveport, La.
According to Pat Carpenter Bourgeois, president and CEO of Special Olympics Louisiana, the National Guard was chosen because of the assistance given to SOLA with state competitions and fundraising events by providing labor and numerous other services. SOLA was able to utilize Camp Beauregard facilities for several National and World Games camps.
“Special Olympics Louisiana is fortunate to have the commitment and dedication of the Louisiana National Guard,” stated Bourgeois. “No one is better at logistics, communication, tasking and accomplishing goals, than the National Guard, and it has been our pleasure to work alongside these men and women over the past 37 years.
“They have been a tremendous asset to our organization and we are proud to honor them with the Special Olympics Louisiana Above and Beyond award for their dedication,” he concluded.
Brig. Gen. Brod Veillon, assistant adjutant general for the Louisiana Air National Guard, received the award on behalf of the National Guard at the Spirit of Special Olympics Banquet at the Eldorado Resort and Casino in Shreveport, La.
