PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan - A company of Military Police from the United States Army Reserve based in North Canton, Ohio, transferred authority of their mission at the Detention Facility in Parwan Sunday, June 20, concluding a 10 month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Soldiers from the 447th Military Police Company transferred responsibility of a Detainee Housing Unit within the detention facility to Soldiers of the 690th Military Police Company of the Florida National Guard, from Crystal River, Florida.
“It was a success. We accomplished what we set out to do,” said 1st Sgt. Kyle Jenkins of the 447th Military Police Company about the deployment and the Soldiers he led.
The Soldiers conducted a variety of missions including the defense of Bagram Airfield, providing custody, control and care for detainees, training Afghan National Army Soldiers, and training other Soldiers in detention operations in Afghanistan.
The Commander of the 690th Military Police Company, Capt. Benton Gammons, who assumed responsibility for operations within a Detainee Housing Unit, remarked that his Soldiers were prepared for the task and eager to contribute to the mission.
“You truly held the high ground,” said the Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Laura Clellan of the 193rd Military Police Battalion, “You set high standards in the custody, control and care for detainees.”
After the ceremony concluded, the Soldiers of the 447th Military Police Company were recognized for their outstanding achievements and successes while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom 09-11.
