MANAMA, Bahrain - Petty Officer 2nd Class Robert Gibson is U.S. Naval Forces Central Command's Junior Sailor of the Quarter, first quarter 2010.

Gibson works in the command's Regional Analysis shop providing situational awareness and the geopolitical and military status of countries in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility. This encompasses approximately 2.5 million square miles of water area including the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, parts of the Indian Ocean and 27 countries.

"I'm honored by the opportunity to represent my fellow second class petty officers," said Gibson, a native of Los Angeles and five-year Navy veteran.

Gibson is also secretary for NAVCENT's Navy Pride Association and event coordinator for Naval Support Activity, Bahrain's Junior Enlisted Association, which regularly volunteers at the Rehabilitation Institute for Active-Learning Centre.

His professional knowledge and ability is held in high-regard among his peers and supervisors.

"He's willing to go above and beyond to ensure he gives a great intelligence product," said Chief Petty Officer James Morales. "He was an easy selection for nomination of the JSOQ and I wish all my Sailors were like him."

Gibson was an operations specialist prior to joining the intelligence community.

"He outperforms Sailors that began their careers in this field," said Morales. "Recently he volunteered to go out to the Al Basrah Oil Terminal in Iraq to help plan an exercise there and he performed flawlessly."

NAVCENT conducts persistent maritime operations to forward U.S. interests, deter and counter disruptive countries, defeat violent extremism and strengthen partner nations' maritime capabilities in order to promote a secure maritime environment in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.
