In a May 1 Assumption of Command ceremony, Col. Michael Barefield, chief of staff, Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, Chief of Staff, welcomed 1st. Lt. Jaxon Lewandowski as the new commander.

"Though not a musician by trade, 1st Lt. Lewandowski brings a wealth of leadership and a fresh perspective to this role, " said Barefield. "His unique experiences and interests made him a must-select for this critical role."

Lewandowski believes that his education in marketing and experience with music drove leaders to select him for the position.

"I'm also a musician. I understand what it's like to be a Soldier, and, also what it's like to be an artist,” said Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has been producing electronic music in his free time since 2013 and is excited to work with the 77th Army Band.

"Everybody in the band has been extremely welcoming to me. I really feel like I am a part of a team. Honestly, it's like a dream come true for me," he said.

1st. Sgt. Andrew Foxworthy is the senior enlisted advisor of the 77th Army Band and has been the organization's top leader since Chief Warrant Officer 2 Martin Johnson relinquished command on March 14, 2024.

"He has the same creative drive all musicians have," said Foxworthy. "I don't think his branch matters. What drives him is the need to create something. He has something that's intrinsic."

Lewandowski was previously a battery executive officer in the 2nd Battalion, 18th Field Artillery Regiment.

"I don't think it's all that different. I'm leading Soldiers, managing how we're doing events, talking with upper echelons of leadership, and making sure things are running," Lewandowski said.

Lewandowski believes his experience in marketing will help the band get more reach and engagement. He also acknowledges he will be working with music professionals and if there is ever a disconnect somewhere he believes good communication will be the solution.
