U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility Japan RMC (SRF-JRMC)

YOKOSUKA, Japan— U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center accomplished a major Ship Change Document (SCD) by extending the mezzanine onboard the USS Ronald Reagen (CVN 76). This tremendous project was part of the modernization effort to increase storage space to accommodate a new class of airplanes that the USS Ronald Reagan would be receiving. The exemplary work ethic and teamwork demonstrated by our workforce resulted in accomplishing 33,388 man-days worth of work to support the installation of the new mezzanine.

    • Installation of 30,000 lbs. of new steel structure
    • Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) station overhaul with over a thousand feet of new piping
    • High/ low pressure air
    • Service steam
    • Chill water system modifications
    • New bulkhead
    • Expanded metal panel installation
    • FCU overhaul
    • Installation and testing of 15 new valves
    • 52 new lights with associated cabling and interference
    • Decking
    • Painting/deck removal and installation in 25 different spaces
    • Lagging removals/installations

“The project was successful due to the great leadership of X11 FC Watanabe-san and the other trade FC/FB, their ability to coordinate with each other, and all the hard work of the mechanics on the deck plates,” expressed Jill Malley, C312 Zone Manager. “The trouble desk and engineering also did a fantastic job of quickly providing DF solutions. Additionally, C910H translator Mike Jackson was a major factor in helping me understand the shops plans and needs.”

SRF’s mission is to keep the U.S. 7th Fleet operationally ready, using advanced industrial techniques to maintain, modernize and repair forward-deployed naval forces ships. We would like to recognize all those who were part of this major accomplishment:
