MIAMI, F.L. – U.S. Marines from II Marine Expeditionary Force will join the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard for Miami’s first ever Fleet Week.

For the first time in over a decade the Navy and Marine Corps have been invited to a new city for a Fleet Week. The services will bring multiple ships and thousands of service members to Miami during the week-long event slated to kick off May 5, 2024.

Marines from across II MEF have established a Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force (Special-Purpose MAGTF) led by 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and augmented with Marines from 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, 2nd Marine Logistics Group and other units to take part in Fleet Week Miami.

“Fleet Week Miami is a historic opportunity to bring together Marines from across II MEF to integrate with our Navy counterparts and showcase the world’s finest fighting force to the community,” Col. David Ickles, commanding officer, 10th Marine Regiment.

Fleet Week Miami consists of events spread across the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County. Key events include a beach Olympics, a 5K run, a salsa dancing competition, a naturalization ceremony and reenlistment ceremony at a Miami Marlins baseball game and daily ship tours aboard the Navy vessels.

Miami and the surrounding community residents will have the opportunity to interact with the Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who defend our nation’s shores. They’ll also get to see up close the military equipment and technology that project global power. II MEF Marines will have UH-1Y Venom “Super Huey” helicopters, ANTPS-80 G/ATOR radar systems, CH-53K Super Stallion helicopters, M142 HIMARS rocket artillery systems, among many other tactical vehicles and systems on display.

“Fleet Week Miami is an exceptional opportunity for the Miami community to meet, engage, and learn about their Marines and Sailors who make up the world’s greatest Naval Force. America’s Naval Expeditionary Force is capable of projecting strength across the globe, and we’re excited to showcase this capability during Fleet Week,” said Lt. Gen. Brian Cavanaugh, commanding general, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic.

Ship tours will be available Monday through Saturday, May 6-11. Weekday tours are 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday tours are 9-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. All tours are free to the public.

Ship visitors must reserve a time slot on the Fleet Week Miami website (https://www.fleetweekmiami.org) at least 48 hours prior to their desired visit. This ensures an organized flow of people can board the ships without extremely long wait times.

Information on events and activities may be found by visiting the website or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/fleetweekmiami. Additional details will be posted as they become confirmed.
