NETCOM Enterprise Computing Environment Directorate (ECED) facilitates and supports Continuous Improvement in Army Enterprise Data Centers (AEDCs) globally.

Photo By Gabriel Archer | RADFORD, VA—United States Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM) ECED brought together the Data Center Manager and Engineers 1st Signal Brigade / 41st Signal Battalion from the Camp Humphreys AEDC in South Korea to the AEDC Radford, Virginia from 5-7 Feb 2024 where Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Enterprise Systems and Services (ALTESS) hosted an exceptional example of Continuous Improvement of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Army Enterprise Data Center - Radford. The objective of the event was to discuss AEDC O&M via an onsite working group to show best practices of an established successful AEDC for knowledge transfer and training of the Camp Humphreys AEDC personnel. This included team building that spreads and shares support of the Warfighter with other AEDCs. Further collaboration for the improvement of AEDC management of lessons learned, operational capability, capacity, cyber/physical security, and efficiency. By encouraging knowledge sharing among the 12 AEDCs globally, this helps NETCOM as a whole for greater efficiency of operations and maintenance, physical/cyber security, and host the Army's Enterprise applications, systems and services including the new platform, Army Edge Computing Capability (AECC). Topics discussed to accomplish Continuous Improvement of AEDCs included a tour of the Radford AEDC Facility and data center operations the first day. Physical Security, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), On-Boarding Process, ALTESS Service Models, and Data Center Infrastructure the 2nd day. Break-out sessions were provided as a working group to the 1st SIG BDE / 41st SIG BN personnel from the Camp Humphreys AEDC. Other topics that were discussed were training, budget, asset management, emergency response protocols, and the successful O&M using Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) of the Radford AEDC and the remote monitoring and O&M of the DCIM that is installed in Data Center as a Service (DCaaS) that is up and running in Fort Liberty AEDC, and soon to be operational in the upcoming startup of DCaaS at the JBLM AEDC and GRAF AEDC. 1st SIG BDE / 41st SIG BN from Camp Humphreys AEDC and Radford AEDC ALTESS personnel plan to keep in contact for ongoing Continuous Improvement of AEDC O&M. NETCOM ECED, AEDC Management Division conducts monthly AEDC meetings by theater AOR; CONUS, EUR, PAC/KOR, and SWA for support and continuous improvement. The 1st SIG BDE Camp Humphreys AEDC Manager expressed his sincere gratitude to the groups for generously sharing their time and expertise during the visit. The experience not only provided invaluable insights into the operations but also helped establish a positive and collaborative relationship between AEDC sites.
