CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq — The Soldiers of 2nd Platoon, "A" (Able) Company, 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment are leading the way in the 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division's "advise and assist" mission.
Able company's mission is to assist the Department of State Provincial Reconstruction Team for Muthanna Province in order to build a better future for the province's citizens.
The unit enables the PRT by providing Military Movement Teams to protect the PRT members as they go about their daily tasks and managing the Commander's Emergency Relief Program projects.
The company also provides a Project Purchasing Officer and Project Pay Agent in order to manage projects and pay the contractors.
An example a light week for the platoon started with their mission to visit the site for the new Al Salmam School on a Tuesday.
The Civil Affairs team made a payment to the contractor at the Al Ardiyyat School that is scheduled to be rebuilt.
On Wednesday the platoon went to Al Diyar, another school project. The goal of the project is to provide electrical capabilities to enhance the capabilities of the school.
The platoon got a change of pace and scenery Thursday when they went to the Muthanna College of Agriculture to check on equipment that was purchased for them.
"The Soldiers of 2nd Platoon enjoys these missions, because it allows them to see how their work is improving the people of Iraq's lives now and in the future when our mission is complete and we return to our families and friends," said 1st Lt. Dale Cox, from Henderson, Tenn.
