    2d Theater Signal Brigade

The 2d Theater Signal Brigade #Spotlight shines on U.S. Army Spc. Janay Bowman, 2d Theater Signal Brigade's S-1 Human Resources Specialist.

As a Human Resources Specialist, Specialist Bowman’s duties include performing personnel and administrative functions in support of the 2d Theater Signal Brigade, and advising the commander, the staff, and unit Soldiers on human resource matters.

“Our mission as HR Specialists is to man the force and provide outstanding HR services. Our key functions are Essential Personnel Services, Postal Operations, MWR Operations, Strength reporting, HR support to Casualty operation and Personnel Readiness Management. Our Vision is to provide quality HR Support to each and every Service member, Civilian and host nation employee within the 2d Theater Signal Brigade.”

A family member inspired Bowman’s decision to become an Army Human Resources Specialist. Her desire to help others was also a factor.

“My older cousin was in the Army and her MOS was a 42A. She enjoyed her job and encouraged me to choose this MOS,” Bowman said. “I think a lot of our responsibilities have such a major impact on morale. Every day I get to help a Soldier, Civilian or local national and I can see how excited they get when we accomplish their needs. It doesn’t matter if it’s a major task or something simple. Helping others is most important to me.”

Dealing with the changing nature of HR is one hardest aspect of the career field.

“As soon as you think you have learned something, a new regulation, ALARACT or MILPER message comes out,” she said. “I want everyone to know that no action goes unnoticed, and we will always do our best to help you.”

When she is having a tough day, Bowman turns to her leadership to find the strength to soldier on toward mission success.

“I see how much pressure our leadership has and they continue to accomplish the mission with a smile,” she said. “Often our job can get overwhelming, but our OIC, MAJ Apodaca has a saying, ‘You can get glad in the same pants you get mad in.’ This is a quote I use when I feel a little frustrated.”

Proudest Army Career Moment (thus far):
“My proudest moment is graduating basic training and becoming a Soldier.”

Where do you see your Army career heading in the next 5, 10 years?
“I can see myself becoming a SFC or MSG taking over a brigade S-1 shop myself.”

What are you most grateful for in your life?
“I am grateful for all the support and encouragement I received from my family; it is because of them I am where I am now.”
