    9th Naval Construction Regiment

PORT HUENEME, Calif. — Petty Officer 2nd Class Laknia Beavers, a native of Perris, Calif., assigned to the Seabees of the 9th Naval Construction Regiment, homeported in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, is currently serving at Port Hueneme, Calif., in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Beavers, the daughter of Larry Hayes and Carmen Davis, who reside in Alta Loma and Monrovia, Calif., is also currently attending the University of Phoenix online to finish her Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.

"I served on active duty for four years, got out and went to the reserve component," said Beavers. "I was then deployed as part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team to Nuristan, Afghanistan for a 15 month deployment with the Army in '07 and '08."

Beavers' job with the regiment is Material Liaison Office expediter. The mission of an expeditor is to procure material for battalions, to receive material and the storage and issue of material in support of local pre-deployment projects.

Beavers, who's been in the Navy since October 1995, says she feels proud to be part of an event that is making history.

"After being back with my unit at Port Hueneme [Navy Facilities Expeditionary Unit] for less than a year, I was honored with the opportunity to join 9NCR for a deployment," said Beavers. "I am very honored and privileged to have had the opportunity to serve with the great people in 9NCR. I think Seabees are the greatest organization to be with." Beavers also added. "With the help of a great support team at home Aaron my husband and my son Alarick. I can continue to serve in the armed forces. HOORAH!!!"

Seabees bring a broad range of technical and military skills which, in combination, provide a unique capability to the engineering mission. In addition to construction, these essential capabilities include robust organic support functions such as logistics, maintenance and communications.
