POPE FIELD, North Carolina — The 43rd Air Mobility Operations Group held two ceremonies July 8, 2022, at Pope Army Airfield, North Carolina, as part of an overall reorganization to better align what Team Pope does with the mission and other Air Force locations.
The 43rd Air Base Squadron was deactivated during the first ceremony and the 43rd Force Support Squadron was activated.
“This reorganization is long overdue and will best help serve our Airmen,” Col. Joseph Vanoni, 43rd Air Mobility Operations Group commander, said. “After 11 years of dedicated commitment to our Airmen at Team Pope, today we deactivated the 43rd Air Base Squadron and activated the 43rd Force Support Squadron. This allows us to have actual personnel leadership managing personnel career fields who take care of personnel functions.”
During the second ceremony, the 43rd Communications Squadron was reactivated for the first time since 1997, with Maj. Linlin Liou assuming command.
“Maj. Lieu could not be a more perfect commander when you look at the background and experience she has to match the different mission sets here at Pope Army Airfield,” Vanoni said. ”This move and her leadership allows us to provide dedicated communications support with communications leadership. These moves are a significant shift in the development and care for our Airmen.”
