    CAMP BUERHRING, Kuwait — Four Soldiers excelled in the five-kilometer walk/run in celebration of Labor Day at Camp Buehring, Kuwait.

    On Sept. 7, 2009, the Morale Welfare Recreation center held a five kilometer walk/run event in honor of veterans. Of the 200 Soldiers who ran, over 30 Soldiers represented the 1483rd Transportation Company from Toledo, Ohio. Of those 30, four Soldiers stood out among the walkers and runners.

    Sgt. Harrison Mithi, of Lorain, Ohio, took first place in the overall male category with a time of 19 minutes, surpassing all other male runners by about 30 seconds. Mithi was excited and proud to represent his company; in fact, he was so proud that he took the company guidon with him when he went to receive his medal.

    Spc. Sarah Shafer, from Canton, Ohio, represented the females by taking first place in the female division. She ran the race in 22 minutes 52 seconds, beating the second place female by about one minute.

    Spc. Evan Schramm, a Toledo, Ohio, native, placed third in the 18-25 age group. Schramm finished in 19 minutes 59 seconds and he said he was very proud of his accomplishment. Even though there wasn't a medal given out to the walkers, 1st.Sgt. Otis Cuffee, of Columbus, Ohio, was the first person to cross the finish line, with a time of 31 minutes 17 seconds. Canton, Ohio, native, Capt. Mark Treacher, company commander, was proud of all the Soldiers who represented the 1483rd Transportation Company on the holiday event. He thanked each Soldier for their hard work and also for representing their company, state, and branch in the celebration of Labor Day.
