Q-WEST BASE COMPLEX, Iraq - The 360th Transportation Company "Backbone" officially transferred its mission to the 425th Transportation Company "Highrollers" during a ceremony Dec. 6 at the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center here.

"I feel very confident in the abilities of our Soldiers and the cohesion that they've built over the past five months [of training]," said Maj. Julie Perez, 425th TC commander, of Lincoln, Neb.

The 425th TC will take over the mission of providing combat logistical support under the 71st Corps Support Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade.

The 360th TC, an active-component unit from Fort Carson, Colo., provided training and information to the 425th before it arrived in theater. The 425th is a Reserve unit from Sioux City, Iowa.

"We truly appreciate the knowledge transfer that began six months ago," said Perez. She and her Soldiers are "looking forward to proving ourselves in the next year."

The 425th was originally a quartermaster unit. Several Soldiers came from other units, and a large percentage retrained intensively to become truck drivers, said Perez.

"What I have seen is a quality job, and a job well done," said Lt. Col. Russell Livingston, commander, 71st CSB. Livingston praised the 360th by reciting several statistics of miles driven and cargo hauled.

"Those numbers are easy to say, but hard to do," said Livingstone.

"As a commander, I couldn't be more proud of each Backbone Soldier, NCO and leader," said Capt. Troy Kirby, commander, 360th TC. "Each of you has set new standards [in] the war on terrorism."

Kirby welcomed the 425th to Iraq, wishing them an "uneventful" time during the unit's deployment to Q-West.

Before closing his remarks, Kirby asked for a moment of silence to remember four Soldiers who "paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country last year: Staff Sgt. Brian Morris, Sgt. Julio Negron, Spc. Lizbeth Robles and Pfc. Elden Arcand."

As the master of ceremonies read the unit histories, the 360th TC command team cased the guidon, and the 425th TC team unfurled theirs to hang proudly with its fellow 71st CSB guidons.

"I look forward to working with you," said Livingston to the 425th. He added to all the Soldiers: "Your nation is thankful for what you do."
