    Forward Operating Base Hammer, Iraq - Based out of Sheffield, Ala., the 678th Human Relations Postal Company's current deployment has brought them to Forward Operating Base Hammer to manage and run the Army Post Office.

    The Post Office staff is comprised of noncommissioned officer in charge Sgt. 1st Class Douglas Green of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; Sgt. Roberta Samargo of Charlotte, N.C., who is in charge of the COPE program; Spc. William Gandy of Florence, Ala., and is a technical inspector, the supply and claims specialist; Spc. Caleb Gray of Greenhill, Ala.; Spc. Michael Warnke of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and is in charge of re-direct; Florence, Ala., native, Spc. Quitney Butler who works finance; Spc. Roland Ray hails from Hamilton, Ala., who also works in the Finance section; Pfc. Tamarcus Burt of Muscle Shoals, Ala., handles registered mail; and Pfc. Daricus Burt also from Muscle Shoals, Ala., is a finance specialist.

    Providing excellent customer service is top priority for the Hammer APO. They are dedicated to ensuring that personnel at FOB Hammer remain connected to their families.

    Since the closure of FOB Loyalty's APO, FOB Hammer's APO has experienced an increase of incoming mail. The FOB Hammer APO services more than 4,500 personnel. Currently, the APO processes 16,000 pounds of retro-grade mail weekly and receives an estimated 4,000 pounds of pro-grade daily.

    The FOB Hammer APO has implemented a plan to deliver mail to Soldiers located off of FOB Hammer. With the help of liaison officers, the APO arranges movement of mail from FOB Hammer to other Joint Security Stations, Combat Outposts and other FOBs. The plan operates smoothly and without any delay in the mail system.

    The staff at FOB Hammer faces new challenges every day. They are dedicated to the customers and keeping a steady flow of retro-grade and pro-grade mail. Customers enjoy coming into the APO and the postal team enjoys seeing their smiling faces. The 678th/271st HR Company, Troops Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade is determined to accomplish their mission and maintain excellent customer relations.
