CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq — Soldiers from the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 125th Financial Management Company, 16th Special Troops Battalion, 16th Sustainment Brigade, celebrated Women's Equality Day by participating in the 5-K run here Aug. 26.
Spc. Sheilah Demakpor and Sgt. Maj. Josie Rossi, each placed in the top three finishers for their respective age classes.
For Demakpor, the 5-K wasn't just another race, but a way of recognizing great women in history.
"Women of the past, like Susan B. Anthony, gave so much to achieve women's equality and paved the way for so many of the freedoms women now have," said Demakpor.
For Rossi, it was a chance to show that woman are a vital element to the success of the military and the country.
"It definitely gave me more motivation for the run, and I wanted to do well to show that women are still out to work and fight for everything they deserve."
