HONOLULU — Marines and a Kailua-based choir group teamed up June 26 to provide a special performance to show their appreciation for the Hawaiian community at the Hale Koa Luau Gardens.

The U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific Band organized the event as their final show prior to their departure to Australia in support of Operation Talisman Saber.

It's good to change the set-list up and let the Marines play something less—standard, according to Chief Warrant Officer Bryan Sherlock, band officer, MarForPac Band.

"We try to do something a little outside the box once a month," he said. "Since we wont be here for the Fourth of July, this kind of fell into place."

Sherlock said the band organized various songs to perform with the choir group that would blend the two complimentary styles together.

"Anything patriotic seems to fuse fairly well," he laughed. "It went very well though. It came together and I think we put on a great show."

Sherlock wasn't the only one who enjoyed the different musical direction.

"It was refreshingly different," said Cpl. Joe Drake, bandsman, MarForPac Band. "We only had one rehearsal before the 'gig.' And it sounded great. It's something to enjoy."
