Devil Brigade on the move in Europe

ZAGAN, Poland – The First Armored Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division arrived at Antwerp, Belgium and began movement across central and eastern Europe on January 20, 2019.
The Devil Brigade is operating in Europe to enhance theater deterrence capabilities in order to increase U.S. Army Europe’s ability to respond to potential crises.
“The deployment of the Devil Brigade across Europe is a reminder of our ironclad commitment to European security,” said Lt. Col. Drew Conover, commander of 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment. “Living alongside our allies improves our ability to shoot, move, and communicate as one force.”

The port operations were just the beginning of the brigade’s movement across the continent. From there, equipment was moved by convoy, river barge, train, and line haul to strategically positioned bases that are critical for timely response during crises.
“This rotation will validate our strategic logistics capabilities to ensure we are able to rapidly deploy anywhere in theater when called upon,” said Maj. Keith Agnew, executive officer of 1-16 Infantry Regiment. “Nothing demonstrates deterrence like the overwhelming firepower of an armored brigade.”
Soldiers tasked with convoying vehicles and equipment from Antwerp to Poland were challenged with navigating civilian roads and traffic regulations with large groups of military vehicles.
“The focus of our convoy operations is to move safely and efficiently to our final destinations,” said Capt. Frank Gargin, commander of Apache Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment. “Our drivers and mechanics are well trained, disciplined, and capable to get this equipment where it needs to go so we can accomplish our mission.”
Atlantic Resolve builds readiness, increases interoperability and enhances the bonds between ally and partner militaries with multinational training events in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
