JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq – Airman 1st Class Travis Oswald is the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing's Tuskegee Airman of the Week for Jan. 5 - 11.

Oswald, 532nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, provides North entry control point protection for Balad. While on duty, the Nampa, Idaho, native deployed from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, apprehended three local nationals stealing copper, which denied the enemy explosive materiel. Off-duty, Oswald earned 9 credit hours towards his Community College of the Air Force degree and volunteered more than 35 hours at the medical helicopter pad and 15 hours with pediatric patients at Balad Theatre Hospital.

More than 15 of Oswald's fellow security forces members attended the event in which Brig. Gen. Brian Bishop, 332nd AEW commander, presents a coin and certificate to the recipient. Their rank ranged from staff sergeant to lieutenant colonel. Tech. Sgt. Clifford Ramson, Oswald's supervisor and North ECP flight sergeant, attended the event as well.

"Oswald is an outstanding Airman," said Ramson, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii. "He has the ability to respond to crisis calmly and efficiently. Airman Oswald is highly motivated both on- and off-duty."

"I love what I do, especially when I'm deployed," Oswald said. "It is a real good experience learning how security forces operates under pressure."

"I really admire the core value of 'excellence in all we do,'" Oswald added. "I use that core value to try to advance in my career. My ultimate goal is to [be] selected for Senior Airman Below the Zone."

The 332nd AEW Tuskegee Airman of the Week is selected based on an Airman's accomplishments both on and off-duty. Airmen in the pay grades of E-1 to E-6 are eligible.
