A Roman Catholic bishop visited the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape school during an annual checkup on the spiritual health of base chaplains, Airmen, families and local community members May 19.
Neal J. Buckon, serving the Archdiocese of the Military as an auxiliary bishop, was greeted by Col. John Groves, 336th Training Group commander, and accompanied him on a tour of the school campus.
“It’s an honor to have the bishop with us today,” Groves said. “It’s a great opportunity for him to gain perspective on our Airmen and for us to see the support that our chaplains give us.”
Bishop Buckon visited the school chapel, rigging and parachute training facility, and the urban environment training area.
“There were chaplains in POW camps, whose spiritual guidance helped many prisoners remain strong during confinement,” Buckon said. “Hopefully our soldiers never have to use the skills taught here, but god bless you all for teaching them.”
