Fleet Cyber Command Advances New Petty Officers

U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. 10th Fleet

FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. (NNS) – Nine Sailors assigned to U.S Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) received new collar devices, signifying their advancement to the next pay grade, during a frocking ceremony on Nov. 28.

FCC/C10F announced that 11 total Sailors assigned to the command were advanced during the most recent Navy-wide advancement cycle. Four were promoted to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class, 5 to the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class, and 3 to the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Two of the 11 Sailors selected for advancement were frocked at a separate ceremony in Suffolk, Va.

“I’ve been working really hard to get to this point and it’s both a relief and an honor to be finally selected to 1st Class [Petty Officer],” said Information System’s Technician 1st Class Scott Zabe.

Frocking ceremonies allow Sailors to assume the title and wear the uniform of the next rank before the entitlement of increased pay or other monetary allowances. The appointment carries with it the obligation that each frocked Sailor exercise increased authority and willingly accept greater responsibility.

“One of the great pleasures I have as a leader is seeing Sailors progress and promote,” said Master Chief Cryptologic Technician (Technical) Michael Smith, FCC/C10F’s senior enlisted leader. “Reaching the next pay grade is a significant milestone in a Sailor’s career. We are proud of each one of these extraordinary leaders and know that they will wear their new rank with pride.”

U.S. Fleet Cyber Command serves as the Navy component command to U.S. Strategic Command and U.S. Cyber Command, and the Navy’s Service Cryptologic Component commander under the National Security Agency/Central Security Service. Fleet Cyber Command also reports directly to the Chief of Naval Operations as an Echelon II command.

U.S. 10th Fleet is the operational arm of Fleet Cyber Command and executes its mission through a task force structure similar to other warfare commanders. In this role, C10F provides operational direction through its Maritime Operations Center located at Fort George Meade, Md., executing command and control over assigned forces in support of Navy or joint missions in cyber/networks, cryptologic/signals intelligence and space.
